New Delhi, April 02: Filmmaker Sanoj Mishra, who had offered viral Kumbh Mela girl Monalisa a role in his film, has been arrested in connection with a rape case, Delhi Police said.
The arrest followed the rejection of Mishra’s bail application by the Delhi High Court.
Mishra, 45, was apprehended by Delhi Police on March 30, 2024, in Ghaziabad after intelligence gathering and technical surveillance. He was taken into custody by the Nabi Karim Police Station.
A 28-year-old woman from a small town accused Mishra of repeatedly raping her over four years while they were in a live-in relationship in Mumbai. She alleged that he forced her to undergo three abortions and later refused to marry her.
An FIR was registered on March 6, 2024, under various sections, including rape, assault, causing miscarriage, and threatening.
The complainant reiterated her allegations in a statement recorded under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). Police collected medical evidence regarding the abortions from Muzaffarnagar.
The incident that led to the complaint occurred on February 18, 2025, when Mishra allegedly took the woman to Hotel Shiva in Nabi Karim and later abandoned her, leading to the filing of the police complaint.
The Delhi High Court reviewed the case before rejecting Mishra’s bail plea, resulting in his arrest, police said.
