New Delhi, July 29 : The Public Works Department (PWD) has initiated preparations to repair roads damaged during the ongoing monsoon, with restoration work set to begin immediately after the rainy season ends.
According to PWD officials, the tendering process for road repair works has already begun and is expected to be completed before the end of the monsoon to ensure timely execution of maintenance work.
Delhi has nearly 1,400 kilometres of roads under the PWD’s jurisdiction. Every year, prolonged waterlogging during the monsoon causes damage to roads, leading to potholes, surface deterioration and subsidence, creating inconvenience for commuters.
Officials said tenders have already been floated at the sub-division level in the department’s southern division for repairing roads likely to be affected by the rains. Similar tendering processes will soon be initiated across all PWD divisions.
The department has directed all road divisions to complete the tender process before the monsoon concludes so that repair work can commence without delay.
A senior PWD official said that after the monsoon, every road division will conduct a survey to identify potholes and damaged stretches. A list of affected roads will be prepared, following which repair and resurfacing work will be taken up on priority.
The department said the advance planning is aimed at ensuring quicker restoration of damaged roads and minimising inconvenience to commuters after the rainy season.
