Ranchi, July 29: Former Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) Chairman L Khiangte on Wednesday appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for the second consecutive day for questioning in connection with the ongoing investigation into alleged irregularities in examinations conducted by the commission.
Khiangte reached the CID headquarters in Ranchi at around 11 a.m., a day after investigators questioned him for nearly nine hours as part of the probe.
The former JPSC chairman resigned from his post on July 22, a day before the CID carried out searches at multiple locations, including his official residence, in connection with the investigation into the alleged examination irregularities.
Earlier this week, Khiangte said he had stepped down voluntarily to facilitate a fair investigation.
“I voluntarily chose to resign to ensure an impartial investigation into the matter,” he had said.
Khiangte, a former Chief Secretary of Jharkhand, was appointed Chairman of the JPSC in February 2025 following his retirement from the state’s top bureaucratic post.
The CID has so far arrested 10 people in connection with the alleged irregularities in examinations conducted by the commission. The investigation has gathered pace in recent days with searches, arrests and questioning of key individuals linked to the case.
Amid the ongoing probe and protests by the opposition BJP over the alleged recruitment irregularities, the JPSC postponed the Combined Civil Services Main Examination, originally scheduled to be held from July 25 to July 27, citing “unavoidable circumstances.”
The alleged irregularities in the JPSC examinations remain under investigation. No court has established any wrongdoing against Khiangte or the other accused, and the CID’s probe is continuing.
