New Delhi, Aug 18: The Delhi government is working towards introducing its proposed semiconductor and drone policies by the end of September, with the draft frameworks expected to be placed before the Chief Minister for approval shortly, according to officials familiar with the process.

The proposed Semiconductor Policy is aimed at building a wider ecosystem covering chip design, research and development, manufacturing-related activities, supporting industries and skilled manpower. The policy is structured around five broad areas, including semiconductor design and intellectual property development, research and innovation, assembly, testing, marking and packaging activities, development of ancillary industries, and talent development.

It also seeks to strengthen the startup and industrial ecosystem by promoting skill development and encouraging businesses involved in semiconductor-related activities. The proposed Drone Policy, meanwhile, is intended to promote drone technology and establish a dedicated ecosystem for companies, startups and training activities in the national capital.

As part of the plan, the government is expected to approach the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) for land in Narela for developing infrastructure related to the drone ecosystem.Drones are being increasingly adopted for applications such as surveillance, mapping, agricultural activities, delivery services, infrastructure inspection and emergency response. The proposed ecosystem is aimed at encouraging more businesses and startups to explore these applications and develop drone-related technologies.

The specific incentives, financial benefits and other support measures under both policies are expected to be finalised after the draft proposals receive government approval. The initiatives are part of efforts to promote advanced technology, innovation, entrepreneurship and specialised skill development in Delhi.
