New Delhi, Aug 18: Delhi Police have arrested a man for allegedly killing his minor cousin and disposing of her body in a suitcase in the Burari area, officials said on Tuesday.The accused, identified as Avinash, allegedly committed the crime after becoming angry over the girl’s relationship with a man, according to police.Police said the incident came to light after an informer noticed Avinash borrowing a motorcycle from an acquaintance and leaving with a suitcase.
When he returned the motorcycle without the suitcase, the informer alerted the police.Acting on the information, a team of the Special Staff reportedly laid a trap and apprehended Avinash, police said.During questioning, the accused allegedly disclosed his involvement in the killing and took investigators to a location in Ajit Vihar, Burari, where the suitcase had reportedly been dumped.
Police subsequently recovered the girl’s body from the spot.According to investigators, the girl’s family had opposed her relationship and had allegedly asked Avinash to keep her under watch so that she could not contact the man.Police allege that Avinash became upset with the situation and strangled the girl on Sunday.
Investigators are now verifying the accused’s statements and collecting forensic and other evidence to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder.Police are also examining the sequence of events leading up to the crime and whether anyone else had any role in the incident.The accused remains under investigation, and the allegations against him are yet to be established before a court.
