New Delhi, Mar 12: A 27 year old man has been taken into custody after his 60 year old mother died during a family dispute at their home in northeast Delhi’s New Seemapuri, police said on Thursday.
The deceased, identified as Hamidun Nisha, was living with her family in the locality. Police said the incident occurred on Wednesday when an argument broke out between her son and his wife.
The accused, Sher Ali (27), who works as a tailor in Loni, allegedly got into a heated exchange with his spouse inside the house.
According to police officials, Nisha stepped in to calm the situation between the couple, but the dispute intensified.
“As the quarrel escalated, Ali allegedly pushed his mother, causing her to fall to the ground and suffer a serious head injury,” a senior police officer said.
The woman collapsed soon after the fall. Family members attempted to assist her, but she succumbed to her injuries shortly afterwards, police said.
Following a PCR call, a police team from Seemapuri Police Station reached the residence and initiated an investigation into the incident.
In her statement to police, the victim’s daughter Sabnam alleged that her brother had assaulted their mother during the altercation, which led to her death.
Based on the complaint and initial findings, police registered a case under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and arrested the accused.
Officials said the body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Statements of family members and other witnesses are being recorded as part of the ongoing probe.
