New Delhi, July 29: The Delhi government has approved the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, under which eligible women will receive financial assistance of ₹2,500 per month, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Gupta at the Delhi Secretariat. The government has earmarked ₹5,110 crore for the scheme in the 2026–27 Budget.Addressing the media, the chief minister said the registration portal for the scheme would open on August 1.
Women aged between 21 and 60 years whose annual family income does not exceed ₹2.5 lakh will be eligible to apply, subject to the conditions and verification process prescribed by the government.
Gupta said the initiative was aimed at strengthening the economic security of women and promoting greater financial independence.Besides providing direct financial support, the scheme is expected to encourage women to invest in education, healthcare, skill development and savings, while also increasing their participation in social and economic activities, she said.
The chief minister expressed confidence that the programme would benefit more than 17 lakh women across the national capital.
The government said the scheme is part of its broader efforts to improve social security and create opportunities for women to become more self-reliant.
Further details regarding the registration process, required documents and implementation guidelines are expected to be issued through official channels.
