New Delhi, July 29: A Delhi court on Wednesday temporarily stayed the execution of a non-bailable warrant issued against Students’ Federation of India (SFI) leader Aishe Ghosh in connection with a 2021 case linked to a protest outside Bangla Bhavan.
The Judicial Magistrate First Class-05 at Patiala House Courts passed the order after Ghosh’s counsel informed the court that she could not attend the previous hearing due to unavoidable circumstances.
The court granted temporary relief and directed Ghosh to appear in person on the next date of hearing. The stay on the warrant will remain in effect until then.
The case relates to a demonstration held outside Bangla Bhavan in 2021. Ghosh faces allegations under provisions concerning disobedience of an order issued by a public servant and criminal trespass. Police have already filed a chargesheet in the matter.
The court’s order came amid political attention surrounding reports that Delhi Police had attempted to detain Ghosh from the national headquarters of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the national capital.
The CPI(M) had alleged that police personnel arrived at the party office to take Ghosh into custody. Videos circulated on social media showed Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas questioning a woman police official who was reportedly not in uniform.
Ghosh has recently been associated with student demonstrations organised by the SFI at Jantar Mantar over examination-related concerns.
She has emerged as one of the prominent leaders of the student movement. In the 2021 protest case, Ghosh was represented by advocates K. N. Jayashankar, K. R. Subhash Chandran and Jaimon Andrews.
The case remains pending before the court, and further proceedings are expected after Ghosh’s appearance on the next hearing date.
