New Delhi, Sep 14: The Ministry of Coal has begun preparations for Special Campaign 6.0, scheduled to be conducted from October 2 to 31, with effective collection, segregation and disposal of electronic waste among its key priorities.

The campaign will build on the results of Special Campaign 5.0, during which the ministry and organisations under its administrative control undertook extensive cleanliness, scrap disposal and administrative reform activities.During Special Campaign 5.0, more than 1.13 crore square feet of space was cleaned and over 14,017 metric tonnes of scrap was disposed of, generating about Rs 56.85 crore in revenue, according to the ministry.

The ministry also reviewed 2,56,478 files and closed or weeded out 1,28,527 of them. It reported complete disposal of public grievances and references received from the Prime Minister’s Office during the campaign.

The campaign also encouraged innovative reuse of industrial waste. In the Orient Area of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, around seven to eight tonnes of recovered industrial material was used to create sculptures representing four major pilgrimage sites.

Similarly, the “Angara” mascot of Coal India Limited was created from iron scrap at Western Coalfields Limited’s Central Workshop in Tadali.

The ministry said its cleanliness and waste-management efforts continued between November 2025 and August 2026. During this period, 83.92 lakh square feet of area was cleaned and more than 15,585 metric tonnes of scrap was disposed of, generating around Rs 55.29 crore.

Vacant spaces were also put to productive use for activities such as plantation, gardening, beautification, parking, pathways, office seating and storage.

Preparatory meetings for Special Campaign 6.0 were held on September 1 with nodal officers from Coal India Limited and its subsidiaries, NLC India Limited, Singareni Collieries Company Limited, the Coal Controller’s Organisation and the Coal Mines Provident Fund Organisation.

Officials were briefed on the best practices and achievements of the previous campaign and were informed about the activities planned under the new initiative.

The ministry said the experience gained during Special Campaign 5.0 would provide a strong foundation for implementing Special Campaign 6.0, with greater emphasis on environmental responsibility, efficient resource management and systematic handling of electronic waste.
