New Delhi, July 25: Commuters in the national capital continued to face travel disruptions on Saturday as 18 Delhi Metro stations remained closed for the fourth consecutive day due to heightened security arrangements linked to the ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest near Jantar Mantar.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said the affected stations would remain closed from 7:30 a.m. until further notice as security agencies continue to monitor the situation in central Delhi.
Despite the closures, passengers will be able to interchange between metro lines at Rajiv Chowk, Mandi House, and Central Secretariat stations without exiting the premises.
The stations that remain closed are Lok Kalyan Marg, Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Barakhambha Road, Supreme Court, Seva Teerth, Janpath, Mandi House, Central Secretariat, ITO, Delhi Gate, Indraprastha, Khan Market, Jor Bagh, Shivaji Stadium, Jhandewalan, and New Delhi.The restrictions have affected daily commuters, including office workers, students, and visitors travelling to central Delhi. Many passengers have been forced to rely on alternative modes of transport or modify their travel routes.
The continued closure has also drawn concerns from the legal community. The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has raised the issue before the Supreme Court, stating that the shutdown of metro stations has made it difficult for lawyers, litigants, and court staff to reach the court complex.
Security arrangements remain in place around Jantar Mantar and nearby areas, where protesters have been demonstrating over alleged irregularities in the NEET medical entrance examination.
Authorities have maintained the restrictions as a precautionary measure to manage crowds and maintain law and order.The DMRC said normal metro services at the affected stations will resume once security agencies issue further directions.
