New Delhi, September 20: Several schools in India’s capital received bomb threats on Saturday, prompting evacuations and large-scale security checks, police said, adding that all students and staff were safe.

Delhi Public School (DPS) Dwarka, among the institutions targeted, announced closure for the day and postponed scheduled mid-term examinations. Krishna Model Public School and Sarvodaya Vidyalaya were also among those that received threatening phone calls, officials said.

Police teams and bomb disposal squads were dispatched to the sites to carry out searches. “Students and staff from the affected schools were safely evacuated,” a Delhi Police spokesperson said. In a notice to parents, DPS Dwarka cited “unavoidable circumstances” for the closure and said fresh exam dates would be announced later.

The incident follows a series of similar hoax threats in the capital. Earlier this month, the University College of Medical Sciences, Maulana Azad Medical College, and the Delhi Chief Minister’s Secretariat received bomb threats via email, all of which were later declared safe after checks.

Police said investigations are continuing to trace the origin of the latest calls. “We are treating each threat with utmost seriousness,” said senior officer Nidhin Valsan.
