Patna, Sept 9: The Bihar Education Department has transferred around 42,000 surplus teachers across 26 districts as part of its ongoing exercise to rationalise teacher deployment, with all those transferred being allotted schools based on their stated preferences.
The department announced the provisional transfer results on Wednesday. Teachers included in the provisional list can now file objections online, following which the objections will be examined and resolved before the final list is issued.
The adjustment exercise is still pending in 12 districts, including Patna. Provisional transfer lists for these districts are expected to be released shortly.
The department has also announced that applications for general teacher transfers will begin from September 17. It aims to complete all transfer-related processes by October 31.
As part of the adjustment process, each surplus teacher was asked to submit 30 choices of schools. The government school system has approximately 12,000 surplus teachers across Classes 1-5, 6-8, 9-10 and 11-12.
In the first phase, applications were invited for mutual transfers along with the adjustment of surplus teachers.
Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari had said on August 28 that 71,151 surplus teachers had applied online for transfers through the e-Shikshakosh portal. Of these, around 37,000 teachers were allotted schools among their first five preferences.
According to the information provided by the department, most of the teachers who received schools among their preferred choices are women.
The transfer exercise is part of the department’s broader effort to rationalise teacher deployment and complete the state’s transfer process within the stipulated timeline.
