Patna, July 25: In a major push towards providing housing security to the landless, the Bihar government on Saturday distributed land settlement certificates to 5,446 eligible families under its ‘Abhiyan Basera Do’ initiative, paving the way for thousands to build their own homes.
Each beneficiary family received three decimals of land, approximately 1,306 square feet, for residential purposes. The state government has set a target of providing residential land to 30,000 eligible landless families by August 15.
Announcing the initiative, Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Dr. Dilip Kumar Jaiswal said the programme forms a key part of the government’s land reform and welfare agenda aimed at ensuring housing rights for economically weaker sections.
“The state government has set a target of providing residential land to 30,000 eligible landless families by August 15,” Jaiswal said.
He said significant progress has been made in land reforms and the welfare of landless families during the first 100 days of the current government’s tenure.
“‘Abhiyan Basera Do’ is ensuring the right to housing land for thousands of eligible families,” the minister said, adding that the government was confident of achieving the target within the stipulated timeline.
According to official data, Gaya recorded the highest number of beneficiaries with 407 landless families receiving settlement certificates. Nalanda followed with 378 beneficiaries, while Patna accounted for 363 families. Aurangabad (296), Banka (282), Katihar (222), Begusarai (210), Kishanganj (209), Munger (204), Samastipur (189), Gopalganj (187), Vaishali (178) and Madhubani (175) also figured among the districts with significant allocations.
Land settlement certificates were also distributed to beneficiaries in Bhagalpur, Khagaria, Nawada, Saran, Saharsa, Muzaffarpur, Rohtas, Darbhanga, Jamui, Madhepura, Supaul and several other districts as part of the statewide campaign.
Officials said the initiative has brought relief to thousands of families who had remained without land for years, giving them a realistic opportunity to construct permanent homes and improve their living conditions.
The government reiterated its commitment to completing the distribution of residential land settlement certificates to 30,000 eligible landless families across Bihar by August 15.
