Patna, Aug. 6: Government model schools across Bihar have begun implementing the state government’s directive to adopt a new identity under the name “Saraswati Vidya Niketan” while repainting school buildings in a prescribed “sunrise” colour scheme.
The initiative covers all 551 model schools operating across Bihar’s 38 districts. The move follows an announcement by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, who said the exercise is intended to establish a uniform identity for model schools throughout the state.In several districts, school authorities have already started repainting buildings and replacing signboards.
Officials said the work is being carried out in accordance with guidelines issued by the Bihar State Educational Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (BSIEDC), which specifies colour combinations for exterior walls, interiors, borders, and doors and windows.School administrators said they are implementing the directive as instructed by the education department.
Some principals noted that a number of schools had undergone renovation and fresh painting shortly before the latest order, resulting in additional expenditure for repainting. They added that, as government institutions, schools are required to comply with departmental decisions.
Education officials confirmed that the work is progressing in model schools across multiple districts. According to district authorities, implementation is taking place in phases, with schools following the prescribed design and naming pattern.
Some teachers expressed the view that additional funds spent on repainting could have been used to strengthen educational infrastructure, including computer laboratories, classroom facilities and learning resources. However, they acknowledged that the government directive is mandatory and must be followed.
Officials said the repainting and renaming exercise forms part of a broader effort to standardise the appearance and branding of Bihar’s model schools.
The schools cater primarily to students from Classes 9 to 12 and are spread across all administrative blocks, with some larger districts having more than one model school.The implementation process is expected to continue until all designated model schools complete the transition to the new name and colour scheme.
