Patna, Aug. 6: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday urged ministers and legislators to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technology to improve governance, strengthen public outreach and accelerate development across the state.
Addressing an AI awareness and orientation programme for legislators in Patna, the Chief Minister said technological innovation has become essential for efficient administration and informed decision-making.
He encouraged elected representatives to integrate AI-based tools into their day-to-day work to enhance transparency, monitor development projects and maintain closer engagement with people in their constituencies.
Highlighting the government’s ongoing initiatives, Choudhary said AI is already being used to support the implementation of welfare programmes. He noted that digital systems are assisting the state in identifying eligible beneficiaries for public schemes, including the ongoing exercise to issue ration cards to eligible families.
A digital survey of farmers is also underway to improve planning and delivery of agriculture-related services.The Chief Minister said AI can also help reduce the cost of infrastructure projects by improving planning and technical evaluation.
He cited an example where an AI-assisted review of a project estimate prepared by the Building Construction Department helped lower the projected cost, allowing savings to be redirected towards additional development works.
Calling AI an important tool for modern governance, Choudhary said ministers, MLAs and MLCs should regularly use technology-based monitoring systems to track the progress of public projects and improve service delivery. He also stressed the need for continuous training in artificial intelligence, computer applications and digital communication so that public representatives can keep pace with technological advancements.
The Chief Minister further highlighted the role of technology in agriculture, stating that weather centres established across panchayats are providing timely forecasts that benefit farmers and rural communities.During the programme, Choudhary also launched a dedicated website for monitoring projects under the Chief Minister’s Area Development Scheme, aimed at improving transparency and oversight of development works.
The state government believes greater adoption of AI and digital tools can contribute to more efficient governance, better resource management and improved delivery of public services across Bihar.
