APCC chief gogoi targets Sarma government, promises development-focused congress revival in assam

New Delhi Dec 13 : Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi on Friday launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accusing him of running what he described as an industry of hatred in the state during his decade long leadership.

Addressing a press conference after a major induction programme at the All India Congress Committee headquarters Gogoi said the Congress was committed to ending divisive politics in Assam and would focus on development and employment opportunities for the youth. Gogoi alleged that Assam had been subjected to an industry of hatred and said the Congress would work to restore harmony and inclusive growth across the state.

The induction programme saw several senior leaders from the Asom Gana Parishad and the Bharatiya Janata Party formally joining the Congress. Those who joined included Bubul Das Ashok Kumar Roy Pradhani former BJP leader Gautam Dhanowar and prominent Karbi leader Longki Tokbi. Gogoi said the new entrants would strengthen the party organisational base ahead of the upcoming elections.

Claiming growing public dissatisfaction with the Sarma government Gogoi said thousands of people from Assam were preparing to travel to Delhi to participate in Rahul Gandhi’s Vote Chor Gaddi Chhor rally at Ramlila Maidan on December 14. He further alleged that the prevailing political environment in Assam was discouraging dissent. Gogoi claimed that people were afraid to question authority attend opposition meetings or express their opinions freely on social media.

Responding to queries on the ongoing Zubeen Garg murder case Gogoi said the investigation must follow due process and that the chargesheet would be examined through proper judicial procedures. Reacting to the recent defection of the Congress social media head to the BJP Gogoi said it reflected the ruling party unease over the Congress strengthening digital presence.

The APCC chief also criticised the BJP over its handling of the 2024 Lok Sabha and state elections alleging that the party had used manipulative tactics to secure victories in Maharashtra Haryana and Bihar. The event was attended by AICC Assam in charge Jitendra Singh co in charges Prithviraj Sathe and Manoj Chauhan MPs Pradyut Bordoloi and Rakibul Hussain former MLA Satyabrata Kalita and several other senior Congress leaders.
