Hyderabad, September 16: Thirteen people were arrested and narcotics valued at about ₹1.09 crore ($130,000) seized in coordinated raids across Telangana over the past three weeks, state police said on Tuesday.
The operations were led by the state’s Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE), working alongside the Government Railway Police, Railway Protection Force and local police units.
At Secunderabad railway station, officers detained four inter-state traffickers on Aug. 22, seizing 91 kg of marijuana worth ₹22.75 lakh, and arrested another peddler with 5 kg of the drug five days later.
In Warangal, police said three traffickers, including a woman, were caught with 32 kg of marijuana on Aug. 28, while two others were held in neighbouring Mulugu district with 30 kg of contraband two days later. On Sept. 7, authorities under the Warangal Commissionerate seized 214 kg of marijuana, valued at ₹53.5 lakh, from a single suspect.
In a separate raid in Sangareddy on Aug. 29, police uncovered an alprazolam manufacturing unit, seizing 270 g of alprazolam, 7.89 kg of nordiazepam and other raw materials, with an estimated value of ₹16.31 lakh. Two men, including a repeat offender previously booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, were arrested.
Authorities said the arrests were part of a broader drive to curb narcotics trafficking in the state, which has seen a rise in inter-state drug movement through its railway network.
