Ranchi, November 10: All arrangements have been completed for the Ghatsila Assembly by-election scheduled for Tuesday, November 11.
A total of 2,56,352 voters will decide the fate of 13 candidates contesting the seat. Voting will take place from 7 am to 5 pm across 300 polling stations set up in 231 locations by the Election Commission (EC).
As per the official data, the constituency has 1,31,235 female voters while 1,25,114 male voters. There are also 2,738 PwD voters and three transgender voters.
Ahead of the by-poll, Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar said that all polling booths will be under webcast surveillance, with CCTV cameras installed both inside and outside the polling stations. He said that the voting will be monitored live by the Election Commission of India, the CEO’s office, and district authorities.
To ensure peaceful voting, both state police and central forces have been deployed in Ghatsila. Kumar said that though Ghatsila was earlier affected by Naxal activities, the situation is currently under control. However, to prevent any untoward incident, borders with neighbouring Odisha and West Bengal have been sealed.
Meanwhile, polling officers have also reached their respective stations.
In Ghatsila, the main contest is between BJP’s Babulal Soren, son of former Chief Minister Champai Soren, and JMM’s Somesh Chandra Soren, son of late Education minister Ramdas Soren.
The result will be declared on November 14.
