Mumbai, September 28: Mithun Manhas, one of Indian cricket’s most respected domestic players, has been elected unopposed as the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The announcement came after the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai on Sunday. He succeeds Roger Binny, becoming the third straight former cricketer—after Sourav Ganguly and Binny—to head the board.

The 45-year-old from Jammu and Kashmir previously served as Director of Cricket for the J&K Cricket Association. His name gained unanimous backing during discussions among senior administrators on Saturday, making him the clear choice for the top job.

Alongside Manhas, Rajeev Shukla has been named vice-president, Devajit Saikia elected as secretary, and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as joint-secretary. A Raghuram Bhat will serve as treasurer. The governance team has further been strengthened with Jaydev Niranjan Shah joining as Apex Council member, while Arun Singh Dhumal and M. Khairul Jamal Majumdar have been inducted into the Governing Council.

A Stalwart of Domestic Cricket

Born on October 12, 1979, Manhas built his career in Indian domestic cricket, even though he never played for the national side. A dependable middle-order batsman, occasional off-spinner, and part-time wicketkeeper, he was the go-to leader for Delhi during many key seasons. He also captained the side when a young Virat Kohli made his debut.

In an 18-year career, Manhas played 157 first-class matches, scoring 9,714 runs at an average of nearly 46, with 27 centuries to his name. He also led Delhi to a Ranji Trophy win in 2007-08 while amassing 921 runs in the season.
