Jamshedpur, September 5: In a historic step towards promoting gender equality and workplace diversity, Tata Motors has introduced an all-women assembly line at its Jamshedpur Plant.
For the first time in India’s automobile industry, an entire vehicle assembly and production section will be managed exclusively by women employees. The new LP Trim Line at Plant-3 was inaugurated on Friday and will now be fully operated by women. From assembling engines to fitting parts, the responsibility for the entire section will rest in the hands of the female workforce.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Plant Head Sunil Tiwari, Tata Motors Workers’ Union President Shashi Bhushan Prasad, General Secretary R.K. Singh, Division Head Kiran Narendran, and HR Head Pranav Kumar.
After the launch, Plant Head Sunil Tiwari interacted with the women employees, urging them to prioritize safety, discipline, and a healthy workplace environment. “Small improvements will lead to better results. This initiative will not only set an example for Tata Motors but for the entire auto industry,” he said.
Union President Shashi Bhushan Prasad hailed the move as historic, stating: “Earlier, women were limited to supportive roles, but now they will take full charge of an entire section. We are confident they will excel and set a new benchmark in the industry.”
General Secretary R.K. Singh described the step as a reflection of the management’s visionary approach. Calling it a milestone in gender equality, he encouraged the women employees to set a target of operating for one full year without a single accident.
