Ranchi, May 14: In a significant step toward strengthening child welfare initiatives in Jharkhand, Unicef’s India representative Cynthia McCaffrey met Chief Minister Hemant Soren and discussed collaborative efforts for all round development of children in the tribal state.
During the meeting, McCaffrey highlighted Unicef’s ongoing programs in Jharkhand that focus on ensuring children’s rights to health, education, protection, and nutrition. She emphasized the need for a multi-sectoral approach to tackle challenges such as malnutrition, school dropouts, child marriage, and lack of access to essential healthcare services.
The Chief Minister expressed his appreciation for UNICEF’s consistent support and reiterated his government’s commitment to prioritizing children’s welfare in policy and planning.
He acknowledged the importance of collective action in creating an enabling environment where every child in Jharkhand can grow up healthy, educated, and safe.
The Chief Minister said that government is committed to the overall development of children. Many schemes are being run to ensure that the children of state progress in every field.
“Unless children are healthy and safe, there can be no talk of their development. This is the reason why our government is working to eliminate malnutrition and many other problems in children,” said Soren.
Both parties discussed scaling up successful models and exploring new areas of collaboration, particularly in tribal and remote regions.
The meeting ended with a shared vision of making Jharkhand a model state for child rights and development.
The Chief Minister assured that Unicef will get full support from the government for the overall development of children.
