Ranchi, July 24: Leader of the Opposition and BJP leader Babulal Marandi has urged Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to remove Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) member Jamal Ahmad and order an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) investigation into allegations of disproportionate assets.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Minister, Marandi alleged that Jamal Ahmad had amassed movable and immovable assets beyond his known sources of income during his tenure.
He also claimed that Ahmad owned a luxury apartment in Ranchi and was allegedly linked to additional properties in Hazaribagh.
Marandi called for a thorough investigation into Ahmad’s assets, bank accounts, investments and financial transactions.
The BJP leader further questioned Ahmad’s appointment to the constitutional body, stating that his 2008 appointment as a lecturer is reportedly under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with alleged recruitment irregularities.
Marandi argued that appointing a person whose earlier recruitment is under scrutiny raises concerns over the credibility of the commission.
Referring to the recent controversy surrounding the 14th JPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination, Marandi said public confidence in the commission could be affected if allegations against its members are not addressed.
He maintained that transparency and impartiality in the recruitment process are essential to protect the interests of government job aspirants.
Marandi requested the Chief Minister to immediately relieve Jamal Ahmad of his responsibilities as a JPSC member pending an inquiry and direct the ACB to conduct a comprehensive investigation into his alleged assets and sources of income.
As of now, neither the Jharkhand government nor JPSC member Jamal Ahmad has issued an official response to the allegations.
No investigating agency has publicly confirmed the claims made in the letter.
The allegations remain unverified and any further action will depend on the response of the state government and the findings of any official investigation.
