New Delhi, April 04: Microsoft is testing resizable taskbar icons in Windows 11, allowing them to shrink as users open more apps or remain at a smaller size permanently, according to a report by The Verge.

The feature is being trialed under the latest Insider Preview Beta and is similar to macOS, where dock icons automatically adjust size based on the number of applications in use. Users in the beta program can customize taskbar icon behavior through Taskbar settings by selecting “Always,” “Never,” or “When taskbar is full” under the “Show smaller taskbar buttons” option.

The latest update also introduces changes to the Start menu, offering a larger layout and an option to hide the recommended recent apps section. This allows users to view all installed applications on the same screen.

Microsoft has acknowledged that Insider Build users installing the update may temporarily lose access to battery charge status icons, which were introduced in January. However, the company has confirmed these icons will return in a future update.

The changes are part of Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to refine Windows 11’s user experience, with beta testers providing feedback before a wider rollout in future updates.
