Colombo – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi left Thailand on Friday for a three-day visit to Sri Lanka, aiming to enhance defence cooperation and deepen ties in energy, trade, and connectivity with the island nation.
Modi’s visit follows his participation in the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) summit in Bangkok. He will be the first foreign leader to be hosted by Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka since he took office in September last year.
This marks Modi’s fourth visit to Sri Lanka since 2015, with his last trip taking place in 2019. The visit is expected to focus on expanding strategic and economic partnerships between the two neighbours, amid growing regional security and trade interests.
