Ranchi, Mar 27: Jharkhand BJP leader and former Zila Parishad member Anil Tiger was shot dead in broad daylight at Kanke Chowk in Ranchi on Wednesday around 4 p.m., triggering panic among locals.
Police officials said the incident caused outrage, with residents gathering at the scene to demand justice. Ranchi Rural SP Sumit Agarwal confirmed the killing, stating, “A person has been shot dead in Kanke. The investigation is going on, and further details will emerge soon.”
The shooting took place while Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta was holding a video conference with district SPs to discuss law and order in the state. Calling the incident “unfortunate,” Gupta emphasized the police’s responsibility to catch criminals and prevent further crimes.
Ranchi BJP MLA CP Singh criticized the state government, saying, “Law and order in Jharkhand is in complete disarray. How long will the state continue to echo with the sound of bullets?”
Eyewitnesses reported that Anil Tiger was sitting at Thakur Hotel in Kanke Chowk when two assailants on a motorcycle entered and shot him in the head. The gunfire caused chaos as people fled.
Kanke police arrived at the scene and took Tiger to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead. The shooter was arrested shortly after the attack in what police described as a swift operation.
While the exact motive remains unclear, police suspect a land dispute may have led to the killing. The accused is being interrogated for further details.
