Ranchi, Mar 26: BJP leader and former Zila Parishad member Anil Tiger was shot dead by bike-borne gunmen at Kanke Chowk in Ranchi on Wednesday, police said. He was also the Ranchi rural district general secretary of the BJP.
In response to the killing, the BJP and AJSU Party have called for a Ranchi bandh on Thursday, March 27, to protest against the incident.
Ranchi SSP confirmed that police arrested an accused after chasing him for some time. “An accused in the murder of BJP leader Anil Tiger has been arrested after an encounter. He has been shot in the thigh. After being identified, police teams started chasing him. On seeing the police, he opened fire. In retaliation, the police shot him and arrested him. The investigation is ongoing,” the statement read.
BJP state president Babulal Marandi demanded Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s resignation, alleging that law and order in the state had collapsed under the JMM government. “I am shocked by the news of BJP Ranchi rural district general secretary and former Zila Parishad member Anil Tiger ji being shot by criminals. Criminals are fearlessly attacking public representatives. The law and order situation in the state has completely collapsed, where neither public representatives nor common citizens are safe,” Marandi posted on X.
BJP MLA Navin Jaiswal also criticized the state government, stating, “Since their government has been formed in Jharkhand, the criminal activities have increased. The police administration has failed as they are busy looting the lands and coal and are unable to maintain law and order. Hemant Soren should tender his resignation from the post of chief minister.”
Congress leader Suresh Kumar Baitha expressed condolences, saying, “He was a very close friend of mine. I am deeply hurt by the incident. I express my deepest condolences to the family members. Action should be taken against those responsible for the incident.”
