New Delhi, Feb 06 : The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) has demanded the arrest of Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan over her remarks regarding the Maha Kumbh stampede that resulted in the death of over 30 devotees. VHP media in-charge Sharad Sharma called Bachchan’s statements “false and untrue,” saying, “Jaya Bachchan should be arrested for spreading sensation by giving false and untrue statements.”

Sharma defended the Maha Kumbh as an important religious ritual, emphasizing its significance for millions of devotees. He said, “Maha Kumbh is the backbone of faith and devotion where one attains Dharma, Karma and Moksha,” adding that the sentiments of crores of devotees are deeply connected to the event.

Bachchan had, on Monday, alleged that the water bodies at the Kumbh were contaminated after the stampede. She claimed that dead bodies were thrown into the river, stating, “Bodies (of those who died in the stampede) have been thrown in the river because of which the water has been contaminated.”

The Samajwadi Party MP also criticized the handling of the event by the administration, claiming that common people were not receiving adequate treatment and that no arrangements were made for them. She raised concerns about the claim that crores of people attended the event, asking, “How can such a large number of people gather in that place at any given point?”

Bachchan, along with several MPs, also pointed fingers at Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s administration for allegedly giving preferential treatment to VIPs while ignoring the safety of the general public. The stampede, which resulted in casualties, has been blamed on the lack of proper safety measures for the masses attending the Kumbh.
