New Delhi, September 9: Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti V. Somanna on Wednesday visited the Delhi Division Control Office and reviewed key aspects of railway operations, including safety, train movement, punctuality, maintenance and public grievances.
During the visit, Somanna interacted with control-office personnel and held discussions with Delhi Divisional Railway Manager Pushpesh R. Tripathi and other senior officials on the functioning of the division and areas requiring further improvement.
The control office serves as a round-the-clock operational centre where officials monitor train movements, maintenance planning, safety-related activities and other aspects of railway operations.
Somanna inspected several control sections, including engineering, coaching, freight, commercial, signalling and telecommunications, traction and safety. He also visited the division’s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Centre and War Room.
Officials briefed the minister on the operational challenges associated with the Delhi Division, which handles substantial passenger and freight traffic.
Somanna also sought feedback from staff working at the operational level on issues related to railway functioning and infrastructure.The discussions covered the wider adoption of technology, improvement of employees’ working conditions and future requirements for railway infrastructure and operations.
Somanna stressed the importance of using modern technology to strengthen safety monitoring, train operations and maintenance. He said technology-driven systems could help reduce human errors and improve the reliability of railway operations.
The minister also highlighted the government’s continued focus on domestic technological capabilities and initiatives aimed at strengthening India’s railway infrastructure.
Appreciating railway employees for their discipline and dedication, Somanna said their round-the-clock efforts are essential for keeping the railway network operational.
The visit underscored the need for continuous monitoring, technological upgrades, operational efficiency and employee-oriented measures to further improve the performance and safety of Indian Railways.
