New Delhi, September 9: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal held talks with Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun in New Delhi on Wednesday, with discussions centred on expanding bilateral trade, investment and business cooperation.
The meeting at Vanijya Bhawan focused on strengthening economic ties between the two countries and creating additional opportunities for businesses and investors.The ministers discussed ways to promote greater commercial engagement, including stronger business-to-business connections and expanded trade promotion activities.
They also explored areas where India and Thailand could work together to support balanced and sustainable growth in bilateral trade.Progress in the review of the ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) was also discussed.
Both sides emphasised the importance of advancing the review process within a defined timeframe and using the India-Thailand Joint Trade Committee as a mechanism to deepen bilateral engagement.
The two countries also highlighted the need for a mutually beneficial framework that could improve market access and open new opportunities for enterprises in both markets.
During the engagement, the ministers addressed representatives of Thai businesses operating in sectors including space technology, cold-chain logistics, food processing, innovation, healthcare and wellness, as well as trade and investment promotion.
India and Thailand share longstanding cultural, civilisational and economic links and maintain a strategic partnership. Both countries have been working to strengthen private-sector participation and address issues related to trade facilitation, market access and integration with regional and global supply chains.
The latest discussions reaffirmed the commitment of India and Thailand to deepen economic cooperation and build a stronger and more balanced trade and investment relationship.
