Ranchi, Sept 7 : The Jharkhand Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested another accused in connection with alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Graduate Level Combined Competitive Examination (JSSC-CGL) 2023, taking the total number of arrests in the case to 10, officials said on Monday.
The latest accused has been identified as Kundan Kumar, a resident of Dumri village in Palamu district, the CID said in a statement.
The JSSC-CGL examination was conducted in September 2024 by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) and has been under investigation over allegations of irregularities.
The CID’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) is probing the alleged malpractice in the recruitment examination. The agency has made a series of arrests in the case since August 18.
According to officials, the CID arrested an accused from Giridih district on August 30. Four candidates who had successfully cleared the JSSC-CGL examination were arrested on August 28, while two other accused were apprehended on August 27.
The investigation had earlier led to the arrest of Abhay Tiwari, who was then serving as a block supply officer in Poriyahat, Godda district. His wife Sushama Kumari and brother Akshay Tiwari were also arrested in connection with the probe.
The Jharkhand government had earlier announced the cancellation of several recruitment examinations, including the JSSC-CGL-2023 examination held on September 21 and 22, 2024, following protests by job aspirants over alleged irregularities.
However, the Jharkhand High Court stayed the government’s decision to cancel certain examinations, including the JSSC-CGL-2023, after successful candidates approached the court expressing concern that cancellation could result in loss of their jobs.
The CID investigation is continuing to establish the alleged irregularities and the roles of those arrested in the recruitment examination. The allegations are subject to investigation and have not been established in court.
