Guwahati, Sep 2: Timely treatment, counselling and rehabilitation support have helped a 26-year-old Scheduled Tribe beneficiary from Assam’s Karbi Anglong district make significant progress in his recovery from substance dependence and regain focus on his career goals.
The beneficiary, identified by the changed name Simhon, had studied up to the intermediate level and aspired to join the police service. However, negative peer influence and depression gradually affected his personal life and interrupted his education and career plans.
Despite coming from a financially stable family, substance use created serious personal and emotional difficulties for him. He remained unemployed and struggled to concentrate on building a career.
A turning point came on May 19, 2026, when Simhon sought assistance from the Integrated Society for Development, a supported centre functioning as a District De-Addiction Centre in Karbi Anglong.The centre provided him with a structured recovery programme that included medication, counselling, meditation, yoga sessions and regular guidance.
Continued follow-up and encouragement helped him strengthen his commitment to recovery and rebuild his confidence.Alongside treatment, Simhon received vocational guidance to help him explore livelihood and employment opportunities.
The counselling focused on setting realistic goals, working towards financial independence and developing a sustainable future.Simhon has since shown encouraging progress and is preparing himself for employment opportunities.
While no change in his income has been reported so far, he has developed a clearer sense of direction and a better understanding of the steps needed to pursue his career ambitions.
His experience highlights the importance of combining de-addiction treatment with counselling, rehabilitation and livelihood support to help young people overcome substance dependence and move towards greater confidence, employment and self-reliance.
