Patna, Sep 1: Indian Railways has approved Rs 233 crore for installation of Electronic Interlocking (EI) systems at 21 stations in the Samastipur division of East Central Railway, a move aimed at strengthening railway safety and facilitating the implementation of the indigenous Kavach automatic train protection system.

Under the approved project, existing panel interlocking systems at all 21 stations will be replaced with modern computer-based Electronic Interlocking technology.

The stations covered by the project are Madhubani, Angar Ghat, Badla Ghat, Dhamara Ghat, Rusera Ghat, Ramgarhwa, Bhagwanpur Desua, Narhan, Naya Nagar, Rajnagar, Salauna, Imli, Olapur, Koparia, Simri Bakhtiyarpur, Sonbarsa Kachhari, Pandaul, Dr Srikrishna Singh Nagar Garhpura, Baijnathpur, Budhma and Murliganj.

The modern signalling system is expected to strengthen railway infrastructure and support the implementation of Kavach, India’s indigenous automatic train protection technology.

Electronic Interlocking replaces older relay-based systems with computer-based technology, offering greater reliability, faster fault resolution and easier maintenance. It is also expected to improve operational convenience and efficiency at the identified stations.

The signalling upgrade is part of Indian Railways’ wider efforts to modernise its network, enhance safety and improve train operations.

The project is expected to provide a significant technology and safety boost to the Samastipur division, while creating infrastructure conducive to the wider deployment of Kavach.
