New Delhi, September 1: Monsoon activity is expected to remain strong across several parts of India on Wednesday, September 2, with heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast in parts of central India and heavy showers likely in several northern and eastern states.
A well-marked low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining regions, including north coastal Odisha, Jharkhand and the northwest Bay of Bengal, is influencing the weather pattern. The system is expected to move west-northwestwards across Odisha and Jharkhand over the next 48 hours, supporting widespread rainfall over eastern and central India.
According to the weather forecast, isolated locations in Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh could receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Heavy rain is also likely at some places in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi.
Several northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, are also expected to experience rainfall, with thunderstorms and lightning possible in some areas.Delhi-NCR and neighbouring parts of Haryana and Chandigarh may witness thunderstorms along with isolated heavy showers.
Punjab is also likely to receive rain and thunderstorms, while parts of Uttar Pradesh could continue to experience active monsoon conditions.Heavy rainfall is expected to remain a concern in the Himalayan states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, where intense precipitation can increase the risk of landslides, flash floods and disruption to road connectivity in vulnerable areas.
The wider weather outlook indicates that rainfall activity may continue during the initial days of September. East Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are likely to receive fairly widespread rainfall, while rainfall activity may increase across West Madhya Pradesh from September 2 onwards.
Rainfall over peninsular India is expected to be comparatively less widespread. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu may receive isolated to scattered showers. Coastal Karnataka, however, could experience more widespread rainfall.
In western India, wet conditions are likely to continue over Konkan and Goa, while scattered rainfall is expected across parts of Gujarat, Maharashtra and the Marathwada region.
With monsoon systems remaining active over several parts of the country, residents in areas vulnerable to flooding and landslides have been advised to remain alert and follow weather warnings and instructions issued by local authorities.
