Jamshedpur, September 1: A 25-year-old worker died after reportedly sustaining severe head injuries during a CNG refuelling incident at a fuel station in Jamshedpur, officials said, as authorities launched an investigation into the failure of high-pressure equipment.
The incident occurred at a Bharat Petroleum fuel outlet while a CNG vehicle was being refuelled. CCTV footage from the premises reportedly captured the moment when a high-pressure CNG pipe or associated equipment failed, causing a component to strike the worker, identified as Tushar Kumar, on the head.Kumar was immediately taken to a nearby hospital by fellow employees for emergency treatment.
However, he later died from his injuries, according to reports.The incident triggered panic at the fuel station, with people present at the premises moving away from the area following reports of a gas leak.
Emergency safety measures were subsequently used to bring the situation under control.
The fuel station has been sealed as authorities examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. A technical inspection of the CNG system is expected to assess the condition of the pipes and other equipment, as well as the safety arrangements at the facility.
Investigators are expected to determine the exact cause of the equipment failure and examine whether maintenance and operational safety procedures were being properly followed.
Meanwhile, the family of the deceased worker has reportedly reached an agreement with the fuel station management regarding financial assistance. According to reports, the family is expected to receive compensation of Rs 10 lakh. The management has also reportedly agreed to settle Kumar’s pending financial dues and facilitate additional assistance.
The incident has drawn attention to safety concerns surrounding high-pressure gas refuelling systems and the importance of regular equipment inspections and strict workplace safety procedures.The findings of the official investigation are awaited.
