New Delhi, August 29 : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall over Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and several northeastern states till Saturday, as monsoon activity continues to remain strong over parts of eastern and northeastern India.
The weather department has also predicted heavy rainfall in Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim till Friday. Several areas could witness intense spells of rain during this period.
Heavy rain likely in Odisha
Odisha is expected to see particularly intense rainfall activity, with the IMD forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places on Saturday and Sunday. The possibility of intense downpours could lead to temporary waterlogging and disruption in normal activities in vulnerable areas.
Jharkhand, Bihar under alertJharkhand and Bihar are among the states that are likely to receive heavy rainfall till Saturday. The forecast comes amid continued monsoon activity across the eastern part of the country.
Chhattisgarh is also expected to receive heavy showers during the forecast period. Residents in areas prone to waterlogging and localised flooding have been advised to remain cautious during periods of intense rainfall.
Northeast to remain wet
Several northeastern states are also likely to experience heavy rainfall. The IMD has included the region in its rainfall forecast through Saturday, indicating continued monsoon activity over the Northeast.
Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal are also likely to receive heavy rain, with weather conditions expected to remain unsettled in these areas.
Thunderstorm, lightning and strong winds
The IMD has further forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during the next two days.
The combination of thunderstorms and strong winds could affect outdoor activities and local travel in some areas.
With heavy rainfall expected across several states, residents are advised to monitor the latest IMD updates and follow advisories issued by local authorities, particularly during periods of thunderstorms, lightning and intense rain.
