New Delhi, Aug 22: A 23-year-old man died after allegedly being stabbed during an attack in northeast Delhi’s Sundar Nagri area, with police arresting one suspect in connection with the case.The victim, identified as Abhishek, was among four people who were allegedly attacked on August 15 following a dispute over tobacco, police said.
According to investigators, Abhishek’s brother Sachin and their cousin Vishal were travelling to work when two men allegedly stopped them near Shiv Shakti Mandir and demanded tobacco.The men allegedly threatened them with a knife after their demand was refused.
Sachin later informed Abhishek about the incident and was advised to return home.Police said the two suspects subsequently chased the men and attacked Sachin, Vishal, Abhishek and their cousin Vinod.All four injured persons were taken to GTB Hospital for treatment.
Abhishek later succumbed to his injuries at around 1:05 am on Saturday, following which police added a murder charge to the case.An FIR had earlier been registered at Nand Nagri police station in connection with the attack.Police arrested Arshad alias Chikna after examining CCTV footage from the area and showing photographs of suspected persons to the complainant, a senior officer said.
During interrogation, the arrested accused allegedly admitted his involvement and told police that the knife used in the attack was with his associate.Police teams are conducting raids to apprehend the second accused and recover the weapon.Further investigation is underway.
