New Delhi, Aug 19: A Delhi court on Wednesday sent former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain and four other accused to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with an alleged corruption case involving the tendering of sewage treatment plant projects of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB).Special Judge Dig Vinay Singh also remanded former contractual consultant with the DJB, Ankit Srivastava, to two days of police custody.

The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) arrested six people, including Jain and former DJB CEO Udit Prakash Rai, on Tuesday night in connection with the case. The other accused have been identified as private individuals Nagendra Yadav, Raja Kumar Kurra and Pankaj Verma. The court also issued a notice to the ACB on a bail application filed on behalf of Jain.

A detailed order explaining the court’s decision is awaited. The case was registered in May 2024 following a complaint by the Directorate of Vigilance alleging irregularities in the tendering process related to the augmentation and upgradation of sewage treatment plants under the DJB.Investigators have alleged manipulation of tender conditions and a possible criminal conspiracy in the process.

The authorities are examining the roles of the accused and the circumstances surrounding the awarding of the contracts.Judicial custody means an accused is kept in custody under the authority of the court, while police custody allows investigators to question the accused directly during the specified period.

The investigation into the alleged irregularities is continuing. The allegations are yet to be established before a court, and the accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
