Patna, Aug 3: Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor moved closer to a landmark electoral victory in Bihar’s Bankipur Assembly by-election on Monday, establishing a decisive lead during the counting of votes in a constituency long considered a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The by-election marks Kishor’s first direct electoral contest. If officially confirmed, the victory would give the Jan Suraaj Party its first seat in the Bihar Legislative Assembly and mark a major political breakthrough for the party.Bankipur has remained an important BJP stronghold for more than three decades.

The result is also being closely watched in the context of recent youth protests and the political pressure faced by the ruling party.Meanwhile, the Congress registered a victory in the Datia Assembly by-election in Madhya Pradesh. Congress candidate Ghanshyam Singh secured more than 66,000 votes and defeated BJP nominee Ashutosh Tiwari by a margin of over 6,000 votes, according to the reported counting figures.In Gujarat, the BJP retained the Manjalpur Assembly seat in Vadodara district.
BJP candidate Satish Patel defeated Congress nominee Bhikhabhai Rabari by a margin of more than 30,000 votes.The by-election outcomes presented a mixed picture for the major political parties. While the BJP faced a significant challenge in Bihar and lost the Datia seat in Madhya Pradesh, it maintained its hold over Manjalpur in Gujarat.
The final results are expected to influence political discussions in the respective states, with the Bankipur outcome likely to draw particular attention due to Kishor’s electoral debut and the possibility of Jan Suraaj entering the Bihar Assembly for the first time.
