Patna, Aug. 1: The southwest monsoon remained active across Bihar on Saturday, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a Yellow Alert for 15 districts, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, heavy rainfall and strong winds of 30-40 kmph over the next 24 hours.
The alert has been issued for West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Buxar, Bhojpur, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Arwal, Supaul, Saharsa, Araria, Purnia, Katihar and Kishanganj.
While Patna witnessed alternating spells of sunshine and cloud cover during the day, the IMD did not issue any specific weather warning for the state capital or several other districts, including Gaya, Nalanda, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Bhagalpur, Munger, Banka, Jamui, Nawada, Begusarai, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Lakhisarai, Sheikhpura, Khagaria, Vaishali and Samastipur.
According to the Meteorological Centre, maximum temperatures across most parts of the state ranged between 32 degrees Celsius and 35 degrees Celsius. Kaimur (Bhabua) recorded the highest maximum temperature at 35.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Gaya at 35.2 degrees Celsius. Darbhanga registered the state’s lowest minimum temperature at 26.2 degrees Celsius.
Rainfall activity continued in several districts during the past 24 hours, with Samastipur (Pusa) recording the highest precipitation at 16.5 mm. Light to moderate rainfall was also reported from Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Araria, Supaul, Siwan, Jehanabad, East Champaran, Sheikhpura and Patna.
The weather office has forecast continued cloudy skies, thunderstorms and rainfall activity across many parts of Bihar over the next 24 hours as the monsoon remains active.
The Meteorological Centre urged residents to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions.
«”People should exercise caution during bad weather, stay away from open spaces, trees and electric poles, and farmers should avoid working in fields until weather conditions improve,” the Meteorological Centre advised.»
