New Delhi, July 27: A video circulating widely on social media and claimed to show scenes from the ongoing CJP protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi has been found to be unrelated to the demonstration, with verification indicating that the footage was recorded during football celebrations in Mexico.
The 17-second clip shows a masked woman dancing on a man’s shoulders amid a large crowd, with music playing in the background. Social media posts accompanying the video alleged that the protest had deviated from its original objective and turned into a celebration. Some users also made comments questioning the conduct of the people shown in the footage.
A review of the video’s origin using reverse image search traced earlier uploads of the clip to social media posts published before it was linked to the Delhi protest. The footage was found on platforms carrying references to the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup and identifying the location as Mexico City.
Further examination indicated that the video was recorded during public celebrations following Mexico’s successful campaign in the FIFA World Cup, when large crowds gathered in the streets after the national team’s progress in the tournament.
Visual details in the clip, including the mask worn by the woman, were also consistent with Mexican cultural symbols associated with Lucha Libre, further supporting the video’s origin in Mexico rather than India.No evidence was found to suggest that the footage was filmed at Jantar Mantar or during the CJP protest in Delhi.
The investigation concluded that the video was shared online with a false and misleading claim linking it to the protest.
The incident highlights the growing spread of misleading content on social media, where unrelated videos are often recirculated with inaccurate captions during major public events. Users are advised to verify the authenticity and context of viral content before sharing it.
