New Delhi, July 22: Social activist Anna Hazare has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to initiate dialogue with students protesting over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination.
In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, Hazare said democratic dialogue is the best way to resolve public concerns and urged the government to engage with the agitating students.
Hazare also called for greater accountability in the education system, stating that those holding senior positions should accept responsibility when serious lapses occur.
He argued that fixing accountability at the highest level would strengthen public trust in governance and improve administrative functioning.
Referring to the ongoing protests in Delhi, Hazare described both the incidents of violence and the police response as unfortunate.
He said that while public property must be protected, authorities should avoid the excessive use of force and instead seek peaceful solutions through discussion.
The veteran activist said that millions of young people across the country are anxious over issues such as alleged examination paper leaks, delays in recruitment processes, and unemployment.
According to him, these concerns should be treated as genuine public grievances rather than merely law-and-order issues.
Hazare also noted that students have been staging protests for several weeks and urged the government to listen to their demands in keeping with democratic values.
He stressed that constructive communication between the administration and protesters would help restore confidence and reduce tensions.
In his letter, Hazare further said that responsibility for major administrative failures should not rest solely with lower-level officials.
He maintained that leadership should also be answerable for lapses occurring under their departments.
The letter comes amid continuing protests over the NEET examination, with students demanding action over the alleged irregularities and seeking greater transparency and accountability in the examination process.
Government authorities have yet to issue an official response to Hazare’s appeal.
