Saraikela, July 10: A Jharkhand Armed Police (JARF-05) constable has been arrested in Saraikela-Kharsawan district for allegedly demanding a ₹10 lakh bribe from a family by promising to secure a Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) Post Graduate Trained (PGT) teacher appointment letter, police said.
The accused, identified as Sushil Kumar, a resident of Ranchi and a constable posted with JARF-05 Company, was arrested after being caught by local residents in Baramtand village under Chauka police station limits on July 9.
According to police, Sushil Kumar had allegedly arrived at the residence of Devilal Sao to collect ₹10 lakh in exchange for arranging a JSSC-PGT appointment letter for Sao’s daughter.
“On July 9, 2026, the accused, Sushil Kumar, reached the residence of Devilal Sao in Baramtand to accept ₹10 lakh in exchange for securing a JSSC-PGT appointment letter for his daughter,” Chandil Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Shiv Prakash Kumar said.
The alleged fraud came to light after Devilal Sao’s relative, Gurucharan Sao, and local villagers intercepted the accused and handed him over to Chauka police.
“After receiving the information, Devilal Sao’s relative Gurucharan Sao and local villagers apprehended the accused and handed him over to Chauka police,” the SDPO said.
A search of the accused’s bag led to the recovery of several documents and items suspected to be linked to the recruitment fraud. These included two JSSC-PGT admit cards, two original educational certificates, copies of applicants’ computerized details, a copy of a High Court order, six blank cheques, an Aadhaar card and two mobile phones.
“During the search of the accused’s bag, police recovered two JSSC-PGT admit cards, original educational certificates, applicants’ computerized details, a copy of a High Court order, six blank cheques, an Aadhaar card and two mobile phones,” Kumar said.
Police have registered Chauka Police Station Case No. 27/2026 under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The accused has been arrested and sent to judicial custody.
Investigators suspect the involvement of a larger recruitment fraud network and have launched efforts to identify and apprehend other persons connected to the alleged racket.
“A case has been registered at Chauka Police Station and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other persons involved in the alleged recruitment fraud,” the SDPO added.
