Ranchi, Apr 13: Usha Martin University on Monday organised an awareness programme on menstrual health and hygiene, aiming to improve knowledge and break stigma among adolescent girls.
The programme, held in collaboration with Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, brought together students from Kasturba Gandhi Girls School and the university at the Damodar Block Auditorium.
Addressing participants virtually, Vice-Chancellor Madhulika Kaushik underscored the importance of accurate information and open conversations around menstrual health, an issue often clouded by social taboos.
Experts led sessions on adolescent reproductive health, menstrual hygiene practices, nutrition and the safe use and disposal of sanitary products. The programme also sought to dispel common myths associated with menstruation through practical demonstrations and discussions.
An interactive question-and-answer segment allowed students to raise concerns in a supportive environment, while testimonial sharing encouraged participants to discuss personal experiences, organisers said.
As part of the outreach, sanitary pads, hygiene kits and information, education and communication (IEC) materials were distributed to reinforce awareness beyond the sessions.
Organisers said the initiative aimed to improve understanding of menstrual cycles, promote hygienic practices and help girls identify health issues requiring medical attention. It also sought to build confidence among participants to speak openly about menstruation without stigma.
Senior university officials, including Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Milind, Registrar Dr. Shiv Pratap Verma and other faculty members, attended the programme.
