Jamshedpur/New Delhi, March 4: Chairman of Tata Sons, N. Chandrasekaran, has announced an investment of ₹11,000 crore in advanced technology in Jamshedpur, aimed at expanding operations and reducing the carbon footprint of the group’s facilities.

The announcement was made during the Founder’s Day celebrations marking the birth anniversary of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, founder of the Tata Group.

“It is ‘Diwali’ in Jamshedpur. We are also expanding again in Jamshedpur. We announced ₹11,000 crore investment in advanced technology,” Chandrasekaran said.

He said the group had also held discussions with the Jharkhand Chief Minister on the state’s development plans and potential collaboration in the knowledge sector.

“We had a good meeting with the CM. We discussed Jharkhand’s development plans. The entire Tata Group will have a partnership with them in Jharkhand and work together in skill development,” he said, adding that the planned initiatives would also focus on technologies aimed at reducing carbon emissions.

Chandrasekaran noted that the proposed projects in the knowledge sector are still under discussion, as such initiatives require detailed planning and long-term vision.

Meanwhile, the Tata Group has also expanded its manufacturing footprint with the start of operations at a new integrated facility of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) and Tata Motors in Ranipet in Tamil Nadu.

The plant, part of a three-phase project planned over four years, rolled out the first locally manufactured Land Rover Evoque and is expected to produce 2.5 to 3 lakh vehicles annually once fully operational.

Describing the development as a milestone, Chandrasekaran said the facility would operate at an advanced technological level and strengthen the group’s manufacturing capabilities in India.

The foundation stone for the plant was laid in September 2024 by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, who had assured full support and swift approvals for the project, enabling the facility to begin operations within 16 months.

“Today is a golden day for Tata Motors and its family,” Chandrasekaran said, marking the rollout of the first vehicle from the new facility.
