Ranchi, 22 Feb : Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, on Sunday reviewed major power projects worth over ₹40,000 crore in Jharkhand and Bihar, underscoring the conglomerate’s expanding footprint in eastern India.
At Godda in Jharkhand, Adani inspected operations at the 1,600 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power plant, built with an investment of over ₹16,000 crore. The plant supplies electricity exclusively to Bangladesh under a long-term agreement, giving it cross-border economic significance. Company officials said the facility has generated thousands of direct and indirect jobs and strengthened rail connectivity in the region.
During his visit, Adani interacted with engineers, technicians, frontline workers and tribal women from nearby communities.
In neighbouring Bihar, he reviewed progress of the group’s proposed 2,400 MW ultra-supercritical power project at Pirpainti near Bhagalpur, entailing an investment of over ₹27,000 crore. The project is expected to be commissioned over the next four to five years and aims to meet rising industrial and urban power demand in the state.
Adani Power had received a 25-year long-term electricity procurement Letter of Award (LoA) from Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd (BSPGCL) in August last year for the project.
Officials said the investments position the Adani Group among the largest private sector infrastructure investors in Jharkhand and Bihar, states that have historically attracted limited large-scale industrial capital despite abundant natural resources.
Earlier in the day, Adani offered prayers at Baidyanath Dham in Deoghar district. He performed rituals at the jyotirlinga with the assistance of priests, offering bel leaves and sacred water and participating in Vedic chants.
“It was a long-pending desire to pray at Babadham,” Adani told reporters after the visit. “I prayed for the prosperity and well-being of the nation.”
