New Delhi, Aug 24: Aam Aadmi Party leaders on Monday criticised the BJP-led Delhi government over widespread waterlogging and traffic disruptions following heavy rain in several parts of the national capital.Delhi AAP chief Saurabh Bharadwaj shared videos of waterlogged areas on social media and questioned the administration’s preparedness for the monsoon.
Bharadwaj posted a video from Sadar Bazaar, one of the city’s major commercial centres, and claimed that rainwater had entered shops and damaged goods, leaving traders facing difficulties.He also questioned the government’s claims regarding the cleaning and maintenance of drains, alleging that the extent of waterlogging showed gaps in the city’s drainage preparedness.
In another post, Bharadwaj shared footage showing children in water accumulated on a road and criticised the government over the situation.Delhi Leader of Opposition Atishi also targeted the administration, sharing a video from the Durga Vihar area where water had reportedly accumulated to a significant depth.
She used the footage to highlight the impact of waterlogging on residents.The BJP and Delhi government had not immediately issued a response to the allegations made by the AAP leaders.Heavy rain and thunderstorms affected several parts of Delhi on Monday, causing waterlogging and slowing traffic movement across the city.
The India Meteorological Department issued a red alert for heavy rainfall and a yellow alert for moderate rain in different districts. It also forecast thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph in parts of the capital.
Rain was reported from multiple areas, including South East Delhi, East Delhi, Shahdara, Central Delhi, North East Delhi, South Delhi, New Delhi, South West Delhi, West Delhi, North West Delhi and North Delhi.
Several commuters took to social media to report traffic congestion and waterlogged roads.The rainfall brought temporary relief from hot and humid conditions but caused considerable inconvenience to residents and commuters across the national capital.
