Ahmedabad, Dec 22: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS), in a joint operation with the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the East Kutch Local Crime Branch (LCB), has arrested an alleged sharpshooter of the notorious Rohit Godara–Naveen Boxer gang from Rapar town in Kutch district, officials said on Sunday.
The arrested accused has been identified as Vikas alias Golu Sheoran, a native of Kakroli village in Haryana. He was wanted in connection with a murder case in Haryana involving a shooting inside court premises, the ATS said.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Gujarat ATS tracked Sheoran’s movements and traced him to a house in Nageshwar Park area of Rapar, where he was staying with an acquaintance, Dinkesh alias Kali Garg, originally from Kaithal in Haryana. Both were detained and brought to the Gujarat ATS office in Ahmedabad for interrogation.
During questioning, investigators established Sheoran’s alleged role in the murder of Lavjeet Kumar, a resident of Rohtak, who was shot dead inside the Bhiwani court premises on September 4. According to officials, the killing was the result of inter-gang rivalry and was executed as part of a pre-planned conspiracy.
“Sheoran and his associates Ajay and Rohit opened fire at close range. The weapons used in the crime were allegedly supplied by Rohit Godara,” an ATS release said. A murder case was registered at the Bhiwani Police Lines police station against several members of the Rohit Godara–Naveen Boxer gang.
Following the killing, Sheoran allegedly went underground on the instructions of gang leaders and shifted to Gujarat in November to evade arrest. Garg is accused of providing shelter to Sheoran despite being aware of his criminal antecedents and of having personal links with gang leader Naveen Boxer.
After verifying the details, the Gujarat ATS informed the Haryana Special Task Force (STF). Both Sheoran and Garg were subsequently handed over to the Haryana STF for further investigation and legal proceedings, officials added.
