Pakistan closes airspace at Lahore, Islamabad airports after Indian strikes

Islamabad, May 8 Pakistan has shut its airspace to all commercial flights at two of its major airports, Lahore and Islamabad, following Indian military strikes on what New Delhi said were terror targets inside Pakistani territory, officials said late on Wednesday.

The closure, which took effect overnight, comes in the wake of India’s launch of “Operation Sindoor,” an airstrike campaign targeting alleged militant infrastructure across the border.

Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the suspension of operations at Lahore and Islamabad airports. However, flights at Karachi airport continue to operate normally. There has been no immediate statement from the Pakistani military regarding the impact or location of the Indian strikes. India has not yet released further details on the operation or its intended targets.

Tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours have periodically escalated over cross-border militancy, particularly in the Kashmir region, which both countries claim in full but govern in part.
