Los Angeles, April 24 – Kylie Jenner’s fashion brand Khy is drawing criticism from shoppers and fashion commentators, with many accusing the line of being overpriced, impractical, and resembling fast fashion offerings.
Launched on November 1, 2023, the brand made headlines with its debut, reportedly earning $1 million in sales within the first hour. Despite the initial success, online discussions have intensified over the last week, questioning the long-term viability and originality of the collection.
Fans have taken to Reddit and other social media platforms to express discontent, labeling Khy a “money grab” and comparing its designs to low-cost fast fashion retailers like Shein. A specific point of contention is a pair of black sequined micro shorts that previously sold for $48 on Khy and drew comparisons to a nearly identical $10 version on Shein. Both were made of polyester.
The brand’s pricing has also been scrutinized, with items ranging from $42 for a baby tee to $498 for a double-breasted faux leather coat. Critics argue the items offer little innovation and are unlikely to appeal to the average consumer.
“It’s giving us nothing new,” one commenter said. “You can get this stuff for cheaper elsewhere or buy at a similar price and actually get quality and ethically made fashion.”
Khy has leaned heavily on Jenner’s personal style and social media presence for promotion. Unlike her sister Kim Kardashian’s successful shapewear brand Skims, Khy does not feature celebrity models and instead relies on gifting items to influencers such as Alix Earle.
“There’s absolutely no buzz around this brand,” one fashion blogger wrote. “It only suits Kylie and people who look like her.”
The backlash comes amid speculation surrounding Jenner’s relationship with actor Timothée Chalamet. The couple, who were recently seen at Coachella, have faced renewed public scrutiny after a series of reportedly awkward public appearances.
Despite the criticism, Jenner continues to promote Khy on her social media channels, posting recent images in a black miniskirt and crop top ensemble from the brand. While fans on Instagram praised her appearance, questions remain over the commercial and cultural impact of the brand.
