H&M offers £5 voucher to shoppers for donating unwanted textiles

London, April 25 – Fashion retailer H&M is encouraging customers to recycle unwanted textiles by offering a £5 digital voucher and 20 membership points for each donation made in-store.

The initiative is part of the company’s global garment collecting programme, which launched in 2013 and is billed as the world’s largest of its kind. The programme accepts clothing and home textiles in any condition, regardless of brand, in an effort to reduce the amount of fabric waste sent to landfill.

Customers can bring in old garments, bed linens, towels, and other household fabrics to participate. Items do not need to be in wearable condition, and donations are accepted from any retailer, not just H&M.

“Today, less than 1% of the materials used to make clothes get recycled each year,” the company said in a statement. “This means that thousands of tonnes of textiles end up in landfills. By reusing or recycling fashion, we can turn that around.”

The programme aligns with growing industry efforts to promote circular fashion and reduce the environmental impact of fast fashion. H&M’s textile recycling offer is available at participating stores across the UK.
